Erev Tov, our annual gala dinner, will be taking place on Sunday, March 30th
January 2, 2008
Dear WFHA parents:
Now that we are into the heart of the school year, we turn our attention to one of the highlights of our calendar: our annual dinner dance, known as Erev Tov - "Good Evening." The evening, planned for Sunday, March 30, 2008, is a festive affair filled with friends, music, dancing and wonderful food.
The model of participation is a value that we as a school community hold dear. As such, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will honor Susan Jackson, Lea Kaner, Leslie Millman, Rivka Shargel, Sandy Shmuely and Carol Sober — teachers at our school since its inception. Teachers are the heart of our school, and we are grateful for the 10 years of dedicated service that each has put in.
Also, we are honored to announce that this year the WFHA Leadership Award will be presented to H.E. Motoatsu Sakurai,
Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York. Ambassador Sakurai has been pivotal in helping to establish the working relationship we enjoy with the Greenwich Japanese School.
The dinner dance and its commemorative journal give our school much needed financial support. Like most Jewish schools, WFHA does not cover its annual operating expenses through tuition. If our school were fully enrolled, it would cost approximately $22,700 per student to provide our superb educational program, before scholarship awards. Until we're fully enrolled, the cost per student is considerably higher. To fill the gap, we rely on our annual giving campaign through participation in the journal and attendance and involvement wit the dinner dance. A successful annual campaign is vital to ensure that WFHA is able to meet its financial obligations.
Another measure of success is the participation of each and every family, as direct contributors as well as active solicitors of journal ads. Your efforts will assure that we continue to maintain our small class size; two certified, full-time teachers in each class kindergarten through fourth grades; and our educational model that provides innovative and challenging academics in general and Judaic studies.
This year's annual fundraising drive kicks off this week. Thank you, in advance, for your continued efforts to keep WFHA in the top tier of Jewish day schools.
Sincerely,
David Messer
